Target Training
Target Training is similar to Darts in that the object of the game is to hit as many bull's eyes as possible by rowing a consistent pace and stroke rate. Target Training differs by allowing you to set your targets for pace and stroke rate and offers two modes of play:
Just Play: An open-ended target training session that allows you to row for as long as you like. Like the Darts game, the target pace will be based on your recent strokes.
Advanced: If you are interested in achieving a target pace and stroke rate and holding it for a pre-determined length of time, this is the mode for you.
- Coaches: You can set the workout for your athletes and see who gets the best score!
- Rowers: You can row your favourite steady state workout with the added incentive of achieving your best score ever!
- If weight loss is your target, your diet should include long steady rows - exactly the type of rowing that this game promotes.
- Rehab rowers can use this game to help them maintain the pace specified by their physical therapists.
How To Get
Target Training is available for PM4s only and is automatically included in all PM4s running PM4 Firmware Version 21 (released November 2007) or later. If you have an older PM4 and would like the Darts game, you need to upgrade to the latest version of PM4 Firmware, which you can download free.
How to Play
To access Target Training:
- On the PM4 Main Menu, select Games
- On the Games menu, select Darts
- Select your mode of play: Just Play or Advanced:
- Just Play - at the beginning of each game, before scoring begins, you will be asked to row five strokes. This sets your pace and stroke rate for the first few darts; thereafter, your target pace and stroke rate will be based on your recent strokes. If you quicken your pace and stroke rate during the game, your dart will fly high of the target; if you slow your pace and stroke rate, your dart will fly low, and so on. Hit the bull's eye by rowing at a constant pace and stroke rate.
- Advanced - set the game duration, pace per 500m, and stroke rate. Before scoring begins, you will be asked to row five strokes. These allow you to get into your target pace and stroke rate. Your target pace and stroke rate are those you specified during game setup. If you quicken your pace and stroke rate during the game, your dart will fly high of the target; if you slow your pace and stroke rate, your dart will fly low, and so on. Hit the bull's eye by rowing at a constant pace and stroke rate.
In either mode of play, the number of points earned depends on where each dart hits the target:
- Bull's eyes are worth 5 points each.
- The next three rings out from the bull's eye are worth 3, 2, and 1 point, respectively.
Your score will be the percent of the best possible score obtainable. A perfect score is 100%.
