On Friday 26th February 2010, Competition Managers from the East Midlands region, with support from Concept 2, ran the first ever East Midlands Regional Schools Indoor Rowing Championship. The event focused on both a Key Stage 3 and a Key Stage 4 competition, with the competition format ensuring that both girls and boys were targeted by schools from across the region.

The main aim of the programme was to develop a competitive pathway from School Sport Partnership level to county level and finish with the regional event. Schools and students would then be signposted to the open entry National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship in London in March. Through establishing this aim, the following outcomes were acheived:

It is great that the above outcomes have been achieved, however, the programme was primariliy about competition and developing a regional indoor rowing competition pathway. This aim has been realised and will hopefully be developed further, in future years - which will allow the top placed schools to win a regional event and focus other schools to strive towards reaching a regional final.
