- Concept 2 Indoor Rower Maintenance Guide
Daily Upkeep
- Clean the monorail down using household polish and a soft cloth, removing all sweat and dust that will collect during and after use. Do not use mineral acids, bleach or coarse abrasives.
- Hold the cloth against the rollers whilst moving the seat up and down the monorail to clean away the build up of dust and grime.
- Wipe and clean the handle grips, to reduce build up of sweat.
- Make sure the chain is not twisted before use.
- Check and tighten foot-straps screws
- Make sure there are no breaks or frayed edges (pictured) in the foot-straps buckles
- Make sure the brass ring on the chain swivel end is present a not cracked. If this piece is missing do not use the rower until it has been replaced. Or replace the entire chain.
Weekly Upkeep
- Check and tighten all the screws that hold the legs on to the main frame and the frame lock in place. (on pre-D2 Rowers)
- Clean and lubricate the entire chain using the "Concept2 Ltd 3-in-1 chain oil" which is supplied with the Indoor Rower. Any stiff links indicate the chain may need replacing to restore maximum performance. See Chain Lubrication PDF
- Ensure the seat rollers are free spinning by allowing the seat to move from the end of the monorail to its resting position at the front of the monorail.
Monthly Upkeep
- Take off the Damper Cover, and clean out all dust that collects inside which clogs the outlet-perf holes, to ensure a better air-flow when rowing, creating the correct level of resistance. See Flywheel Opening & Cleaning PDF.
- Check the life of the batteries in the Performance Monitor, as low life or neglected batteries carry a high risk of potential damage due to leakage to the monitor resulting in repair or replacement depending on severity.
- Tighten the shock cord through the SCAM's, if the handle does not return all the way to the monitor arm, or if the chain is too slack. See Shock cord Adjustment PDF
- Make sure the seat does not have too much lateral movement. If so move the Bottom Rollers up onto the next setting until the need for replacement rollers.
Bi-Annual Upkeep
- Check the chain's swivel column for wear. If the hole has become elongated, replace the chain; if the brass ring is missing, it is VERY important that it is replaced.
- Inspect Shock Cord condition and elasticity, if tightened as far as possible and the handle still does not return then replace the cord. See Shock cord Replacement PDF.
- Inspect Top and Bottom Rollers. Clean/Replace top rollers if rowing feels gritty, ensuring a smooth glide from the seat.
Every 1-2 years
- Replace Handle Grips
- Replace Foot straps
- Replace Flywheel Bearings
- Inspect Chain Idler Pulleys; if there is a definite deep groove (pictured) caused by the links on the chain, replace the pulley. See Chain Idler Pulley Replacement PDF.
