Greg Searle
In 1992 at age 20, Greg Searle, with his brother Johnny and cox Garry Herbert captured the public imagination, and an Olympic Gold Medal with an amazing sprint finish. That race, almost 20 years ago now, created one of the Olympic rowing images of a generation - two very happy and large rowers, and one small cox who is over come by the moment.
Twenty years on, having retired from international rowing after the Sydney Olympics and had a successful career with Lane4, Greg returned to rowing in the Autumn of 2009, starting his come back on his own, on the rowing machine in his garage, and on the Thames at Longridge, Marlow near his home. We have been keeping a close watch on Greg’s progress and in March of this year started working with him on a video diary and blog which we will update once a month between now and the Olympics in 2012.
When Greg first started considering his comeback he was still working full time and like many people who train on the Concept2 Indoor Rower he was fitting his training around a busy family and work life. Today he is back to training full time, but still fitting in some work, and will be finding time to talk to us each month and tell us about how he is getting on.
