UK Leadership training team charity rowathon

Posted by Concept2 News on the 27th of October 2009

The United Kingdom Leadership Training Team (Afghanistan) UK LTT (A) is a small unit of approximately 60 UK Officers, Warrant Officers and other ranks who are employed in the role of mentoring and assisting the Afghan National Army in training its soldiers and officers. We are based in Kabul to the North East of Afghanistan and most of the men are engaged on 6 month tours of duty. As well as mentoring and assisting the ANA many of the men are actively involved in their physical fitness and have training programmes that are followed in the gymnasium with vigor. Many of the men use Concept2 rowers that the Army has provided and therefore this lead to a charity event. All of the men here are enthusiastic about raising funds for a charity close to all of our hearts - Help for Heroes (H4H). It's a charity that we all support due to the fact that we may call upon its services one day due to our profession. H4H provides a lot of equipment and financial support to Headley Court which is an ex military hospital and is now the services rehabilitation centre. Our aim is to row the distance from Kabul to Headley Court which is 3088 nautical miles. We started the Rowathon on Friday 21st August and we are now only 634 miles from completion. The team takes it in turns to row as many Km's as possible in the time available to them when off duty. The final push to the finishing line should be completed within the next 7 days. If anyone would be interested in supporting us and a very worthwhile cause they can go to www.justgiving.co.uk and in the sponsor a friend box enter UKLTT(ROWATHON) and follow the links.
