Tamar & Tavy Gig Club train with Concept2 rowers

Posted by Concept2 News on the 12th of October 2009

Tamar & Tavy Gig Club is row training for the 2010 World Pilot Gig Championships with a helping hand from Concept2 rowing machines.

The club, which was founded in 2003 and is based on the Devon bank of the River Tamar, participates in regattas all over the West Country as well as the annual championships in the Isles of Scilly.

Recently, the club competed against more than 90 crews in the Gig Rowing Season at the Newquay County Championships.

However, as rowing has now finished for the season, the club will follow a land-based fitness training programme over the winter using Concept2 indoor rowing machines twice a week in preperation for the World Pilot Gig Championships, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

Based on air resistance technology, the Concept2 rowers used by the club capture the rhythm and feel of rowing on the water by using a carefully balanced and calibrated flywheel.

Popular with both professional and amateur rowers, Concept2 indoor rowers are also used to test and train Olympic rowing athletes including gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave.
