Tabitha Scrivener's Million Metre Challenge 7th Feb Update
Posted by Concept2 News on the 7th of February 2012
Unbelievably, I am now over two-thirds of the way through my Million Metre rowing Challenge to raise money for Cobalt's Heart Mind & Body Scanner Appeal (see www.scannerappeal.com)
From the start, and with the loan of two rowing machines from Concept2, my plan was to involve as many people as possible in this Challenge. The machines have been located at Cobalt"s offices and I have been rowing in my lunch hour and at weekends averaging 10k/day to achieve the million metres in 100 days. The second machine has enabled others to "guest" with me as a way of promoting my event, gaining an understanding of the effort involved and, hopefully, resulting in greater donations to the Appeal!
In the last month I have rowed with, amongst others, the Mayor of Cheltenham Councillor Barbara Driver, radiologist Dr Claire Croucher whose patients will be beneficiaries of the new CT scanner, and TV celebrity and local doctor Dr Dawn Harper of "Embarrassing Bodies" fame. I have also "guested" with five girls from the Cheltenham Ladies College RC who inspired me to my best score for an hour (13,127m), and helped coach the Cheltenham Tigers RFC U14 squad on ergo technique!
Additionally, I have now developed my own squad of work colleagues who have taken up the rowing challenge on a regular basis. Between us we have rowed over 884,000 metres and raised over £3,000 for the Appeal. The "squad" are so enthusiastic about their new-found passion that there are now moves afoot to develop our own fitness suite at work as no-one really wants to stop! Everyone is feeling the benefits of even just half an hours exercise mid-day with a resultant increase in productivity, team building and morale!
One more month to go with some interesting guests lined up. I will miss this when I'm done and will need a new challenge - any ideas?
