Tabitha Scrivener's Million Metre Challenge 10th Jan Update
Posted by Concept2 News on the 10th of January 2012
I am now almost halfway through the challenge and should top 500,000 metres this week. I have worked out this is equivalent to rowing 12 London Marathons (one every 4 days) with another 12 to go!
So far 14 individuals have joined me along the way for varying amounts of time and some on more than one occasion. This has included a current member of the GB rowing squad and potential Olympic medalist, Beth Rodford, and past GB squad members Patrick Weir and Julian Scrivener. But I have also rowed with complete beginners who have never used a Concept2 rower before ranging in age from 13 (my son Archie) to 74 (one of our Charity Trustees, Peter Hornby).
We have received some good publicity between us with three articles & photos in the local paper, an interview on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, and a 30 second film on BBC Points West! So far I have raised over £1,500 with a number of other people doing their own rowing events which will contribute to our combined total.
As far as I am concerned, I have never felt better. I am four days ahead of schedule and have no aches or pains and feel very fit. I have noticed that I am actually more alert and energetic in the afternoons at work than I was before starting this challenge - an hours row at lunch followed by a bracing shower is obviously very stimulating for us office types!
