Rowing machines 'important in post-workout warm-down'

People wanting to give themselves the healthiest workout possible may want to invest in a rowing machine, if new advice is to be taken on board.
The Post Star interviewed leading health expert Erica Ovitt, the wellness centre coordinator for the YMCA in Glens Falls, who asserted that after Christmas, it is many people's desire to lose weight as soon as possible.
She said that people must prioritise picking a plan of exercise before ensuring they try something new as many less-practised ways to get a workout may be easier in the long run for different-shaped bodies.
However, one traditional piece of equipment - the rowing machine - is extremely important, Ms Ovitt added, as it is valuable strength training when warming down.
She concluded: "Strength training is definitely going to help boost your metabolism and build muscle". This, she implied, burns more calories and allows people to lose more weight.
Last month, in its 2010 predictions for weight loss, the American Council on Exercise stated that people are looking for more time-efficient workouts to match busier lifestyles.
