Rowing Around The World (without leaving Basingstoke!!)

Here is the first installement of Davey H's blog, he's undertaking a quite incredible record attempt in aid of the Breakthrough Breastcancer charity
"Flippin 'eck my knees are killing me!! So far I'm three and a half months in my attempt to set a Guinness World Record by becoming the first person to row around the world on an indoor rowing machine. My hands are a bit grotty but I've rowed just over 3,700 km, rowing an average of 6-7 hours a day, five days a week - on a virtual map that puts me 120km west of Istanbul having set off from sunny Basingstoke on 28th May. Everyone's been brilliantly supportive and so far the weather has been very kind, though I don't know how much fun rowing in winter is going to be! I've had just over £4,000 donated in the collection bucket in front of the rower and I'm writing letters to companies for corporate sponsorship to hit my target of £55,000 for Breakthrough Breastcancer by the winter of 2010. This is when I hope to have rowed all 40,075km, the total distance around the earth's equator. If anyone knows of good companies to write to, please do let me know. I'll continue to update the blog regularly but for anyone who would like an accurate progress report please check justgiving.co.uk/worldrecordrow - and if anyone is passing through Basingstoke, please come and say hello! I'm just in The Malls Shopping Centre by Sainsburys and unfortunately the view isn't particularly exciting so talking always helps me get through the day!"
