Olympic fever - Go New Zealand and go GB!

Posted by Concept2 News on the 15th of August 2012

Wow, I must say, the Olympics have been amazing! - I never thought I would be stuck to my TV screen every night after work and throughout the weekends - I am even dipping in out of the BBC news when I can throughout the day to see who has won what medals!

Sophie Hosking and Katherine Copeland...wow! There were loads of highlights over the weekend just gone, but one that I will remember for a long time was watching the lightweight women's double sculls - the expressions from Sophie Hosking and Katherine Copeland after they realised they had won gold was simply magical - they obviously had no idea they would win! And the tears flowed when they got awarded their huge gold medals. Two women in sport who shocked even themselves that they could be champions! And yes they are going to be on a stamp!

As I am a New Zealander, I am cheering them on for every Olympic competition our Kiwi sports men and women are competing in, but since living in the UK for the past six years, I am also hearing myself chant 'go GB, go GB!' (Unless it's NZ vs. GB, then this is a different story!)

And our Kiwi rowers have done exceptionally well! Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan won New Zealand's first gold for the Olympics in the men's double sculls! One of my friends was lucky enough to try on Nathan Cohen's gold medal at Kiwi house on Sunday - jealous! I wonder what the medals are like. They look rather heavy! Haven't the Kiwis done well? As I write this New Zealand currently have 10 medals: 3 golds, 2 silver and 3 bronze!!

So amongst all the Olympic madness, little old me got on my Concept2 indoor rowing machine on Saturday. After a big night out I was happy to have lasted 30 minutes of nonstop rowing! With iPod in my ears and the triathlon on the TV, I felt disgusted with myself for being so tired while the athletes before me were running after just doing the swim and the bike ride. How do they do it?! Incredible if you ask me. Medal or no medal, it's an achievement just wearing your countries strip and being at the Olympics!

I have my first dress fitting in a few weeks...the wedding countdown in on! Row, row, row!!
