Octogenarian rower is 'world champion'

An 80-year-old man has proven you are never too old to row - and credits row training with helping him become possibly the oldest champion powerlifter in the world.
George Leggett, of Lowerstoft, joined a rowing club as a young man, where as well as regular use of an indoor rowing machine, a lot of the fitness training involved lifting weights in a gym.
Mr Leggett began competing in powerlifting seriously in 1945 and won his first competition a few months later.
After a string of achievements spanning more than 60 years, Mr Leggett was recently crowned the World Champion powerlifter in his age group at the championships held in the Czech Republic.
However he remains modest about his success, adding that he could not have managed them without the support of his wife, Muriel.
"Muriel has been superb in helping me," Mr Leggett told the Lowerstoft Journal.
"She not only accompanies me to the competitions all over the world but makes sure that I have the correct preparation and diet."
Like powerlifting, rowing is great for boosting strength and endurance, and is also lower-impact which makes it ideal for anyone with knee and hip issues.
