New 100k Irish record now held by Paul Buchanan

Paul contacted us last week to let me know that he was attempting the 100k Indoor Rowing record...
So, a local coastal rowing club (Rushbrooke) with close ties to the one I recently joined (Whitegate) are commemorating the 100th anniversary of the maiden voyage and subsequent tragic sinking on the Titanic - with an 82 hour row on concept2 indoor rowing machines in the centre of Cobh (the last port of call for the Titanic - known as "Queenstown" back in 1912), now, as I have had the idea in my head of completing the 100,000m indoor rowing challenge for quite some time now (had to put it off previously in order to concentrate on the World and British & European Indoor Rowing Championships) this seemed to me to be the perfect opportunity to test myself out, basically there will be a lot going on distraction wise and plenty of people to support in terms of helping with food and liquids as well as a cheer now and then, also I may help raise a few quid so after consultation with Q (my indoor rowing coach aka James Bailey) and with some terms and conditions in place, I got the green light. So on 14th April 2012 at approx 10:30am I will commence the row which will take me a minimum of 6h 30min to complete - and that's without stopping! Whether I will finish it or it will finish me is yet to be seen - oh why do I get myself into these things!
Now the terms and conditions that have been put in place by Q could mean I am unable to complete the row, which is why I have not been making too big a thing of it, but it seems that I won't be able to keep a lid on it much longer lol but if I do finish it that will mean I hold all the Irish Records (for my age group) from 100m to 100,000m (as well as a few overall records)
11th to 14th April 2012: Titanic Rowing Challenge: Come and see Rushbrooke Rowing club row for 82 hours in the town centre, in a bid to raise support for local charity "Breaking the Silence". Each participant will row for 5 hours over 4 days to retrace the journey time that it took for the Titanic to reach the Iceberg.
