Leeds University 24 Hour Row
Posted by Concept2 News on the 27th of July 2007
"The event was held at Asda Killingbeck in Leeds, a 24 hour store. With a mixed sex team of about thirty rowers, the aim was to use one of the Indoor Rowers kindly lent by Concept2 to cover the distance from Leeds to Wembley Stadium in 24 hours- a distance of 310km. The tagline was "Row to Wembley in a Day", and money was being raised for the Special Care Baby Unit at St. James's Hospital."
"We started at 4pm on Friday 15th June, and rowed right through to 4pm Saturday 16th June, covering a distance of 353km (to Wembley and a few times round the car park then!).
"The second rowing machine was used for a 100 metre challenge for the public. The aim of this was to show people the fun that can be had using a rowing machine, and it was very popular, as the attached photos show. There was a prize draw for participants in the 100 metre challenge, and the winner was an 11 year old boy who won a DVD player donated by Asda.
"All in all, the event was a great success, with £1,006.37 raised for the Special Care Baby Unit. We are grateful to the staff and customers at Asda for their support, and to Concept2 for lending us two rowing machines- one of them went for 24 hours solid without stopping, how\'s that for a reliable product!"
