Get Going, Get Rowing Results
Posted by Concept2 News on the 25th of March 2011
This year's Get Going, Get Rowing competition came to a very exciting end with new records being set in almost all age categories. After fierce competition between 18,000 students, 192 of the region's best rowers battled it out to become North East Champions in the most exciting competition to date.
James Andrews - British Rowing Team Leader (Northern) said:
The Get Going Get Rowing North East final was an amazing event for juniors from around the region. I am impressed at the depth of talent that is within the North East coming to this final from a range of different schools and backgrounds, not all traditionally involved with rowing. All the organisers have done an amazing job to grow this event to the size and standard it now is.
Durham University hosted the competition and a very special appearance from Emmerdale actor, John Middleton made the day even more special for all the participants involved.
Jim Flood - Rowing Coach, Consultant and Freelance Writer on Rowing commented:
There was enormous enthusiasm and commitment from the competitors - and obvious pleasure and excitement about being there. It was a pleasure to attend this event and to gain a sense of the overall experience that the students had in progressing to this final - in particular amongst those from the smaller schools with no history of rowing.
A huge thank you must go to all of our partners; Competition Managers, Concept 2, British Rowing, SUNEE, Durham University and Canoe England for making the event possible. The sponsors; North East Strategic Health Authority who provided the goodie bags and Northumbrian Water for providing all participants with bottled water.
We would also like to send our appreciation out to the volunteers from Durham University and Teesside University who helped at the event.
