Essex Dragon Boat Race

A team from Chelmsford City Council entered a boat in the annual Essex Dragon Boat Race on Sunday July 8th, which is held on the River Chelmer in Chelmsford.
The event raised money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Research. Each team pays an entry fee of £400 which goes towards the charity, although additional sponsorship can also be raised. With 32 boats competing plus more sponsorship the event raises around £30,000.
Some of the team had some valuable training using the Concept2 Indoor Rowers at Riverside Ice & Leisure, although during the races themselves technique went out of the window for a mad dash to the finish line!
The weather did its best to put a damper on the proceedings with a morning of heavy rain, but thankfully it brightened up through the day.
Our team came 9th out the 32, not quite making the semi-finals, despite winning all our 3 races. Our combined time was just not quite good enough. But it was a good day and we where thrilled to win the 3 races we did.
