City kids get rowing machines to fight the bulge

Concept2 Indoor Rowers are being placed in 93 primary schools across Birmingham in a £200,000 pilot scheme to combat obesity that could be rolled out across the rest of the country if it is a success.
Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary Care Trust came up with the idea to install three rowing machines at every one of the primary schools in the inner-city patch that it covers.
It comes as shock statistics show at least one in 10 five-year-old pupils in their first year at a Birmingham primary school are obese and another one in 10 are overweight
