Bestwood Pupils Shape Up With Rowing Machines

Posted by Concept2 News on the 24th of February 2009

Rowing machines are not traditionally associated with playground fun and games. But thanks to a pioneering scheme which takes the equipment into schools in deprived areas, children who don't enjoy traditional team sports are finding that keep fit can be fun whatever your shape, size or ability. "For some children the issue is peer pressure. Others find they're not as good as other children, and some feel self-conscious about their body shape," said Jo Bell, head at Robin Hood Primary School in Bestwood Park.

Robin Hood is one of a total 18 schools so far taking part in the Active Schools scheme, run by Football in the Community at Notts County Football Club.

A full report on the event can be found on the thisisnottingham.co.uk website.
