Anita & Andy's 100km Challenge - 09/01/12 Update
Posted by Concept2 News on the 9th of January 2012
From Andy Pearce:
Week 14 - Endurance and a Challenge.
Over 228km in total for both of us this week, which goes towards the total for our online team (C2TweetCrew) in the Virtual Team Challenge, which is on the Concept2.com website. This is the most metres either of us have done in a week.
On Bank Holiday Monday we decided to go for 4 x 45 minute intervals, with 5 mins Rest between. Anita racked up 37.1km, me 43.1km. 3 hours of rowing presents some interesting challenges. Comfort is one of them, especially around the posterior, as sitting on something like a Concept2 seat, even with padding for 3 hours can really start to hurt, effecting the nerves around the Tuberosity Of the Ischium, or Sitting Bones www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberosity_of_the_ischium this is scientifically termed a PITA (I'll let you work it out!)
On Tuesday and Wednesday we did 1 hour - It's always difficult to fit everything in with a 9-5 job, so we can't really do much more than 90 minutes on a school night, but we nearly always feel better for doing it.
Thursdays and Sundays are designated rest day (Rest is just as important as Training), then on Friday we both did the Cross-Team Challenge for January - 7 x 777m with 70s rest between each interval (www.c2ctc.com) Anita was up first, and completed it in 22:44.2, or 2:05.4/500m pace. This was an extremely strong effort; she held on during intervals 5 and 6, just as the lactic was really settling in and brought it home with a very good last interval. I finished in 18:31.5, or 1:42.2 pace.
Lastly earlier today (Saturday 7th Jan) we did another 3 hours - 4 x 45 minutes with 5 minutes rest. Anita finished with 37.5km, me 43.7km (Anita 400m more than Monday, me 600m) and we've both now crashed because of it :)
All in all we've together rowed 1200 miles (1935km) since 3rd October in training for our 100km on March 17th - www.justgiving.com/Anita-Wells is where we are raising money for Sport Relief, as well as doing a bit of fundraising at work.
Until Next Time,
Anita & Andy
