Across The Channel For Children In Need
Posted by Concept2 News on the 15th of December 2008
On Friday 14th November a group of Year 10 special educational needs students from the Aspire Programme, Bucklers Mead Community School, Yeovil, Somerset, (along with several members of staff) raised over £400 by rowing 64 km per team (2 x teams of 8) across the channel and back. The event was in the format of a relay with each team member rowing a 1000m at a time, (8000m each in total).
Both teams managed to complete 64 km per team in 5hrs 30 mins, there was less than a minute seperating the 2 teams which pushed teams on considerably. We had a visit from BBC Somerset who took some pictures which went on their Children In Need website and the Western Gazette took some photos which went in the local papers. As well as the 2 designated teams we had lots of interest from staff around the school who came up and helped out with the occasional 1000m's.
