Milton Keynes Rowathlon: Race Two
Posted by Concept2 News on the 13th of March 2004
The Milton Keynes Rowathlon is a three race triathlon series, consisting of a three kilometre row, followed by a 20 kilometre cycle and a five kilometre run. The second race in the series took place on the 21st of February. Organiser Campbell Noon provides the report:It was an 11 o'clock start and the first wave began with ten competitors in each wave racing on Indoor Rowers on a 3km countdown. It was quite chilly and very windy but once the competitors got started they soon warmed up. In the first wave there was a high benchmark set for the rest as Dan Staite recorded the fastest row of the series with 9:56 for the 3km row. Dan's time was followed closely by Paul Courtenay in 10:11 and Ed Hector in 10:19. The bike course was the same as the first Rowathlon consisting of 12 laps of the technical course around the National Bowl. Mark Simmons recorded the fastest time of the day with 27:40. Mark was followed home by Martin Tonge in a time of 28:39. The bike splits in general were a bit slower than in the previous race due to the strong wind. However the course, unlike the last Duathlon, was dry as a bone. The run was once again two laps of Furzton Lake. It was very cold and windy round the lake as it is quite exposed. The fastest time of the day was set by Relay Team Bodylimits1 and Big Cow's head honcho Mark Booth with a time of 20:05. The second fastest run was again by a Relay Team member, this time from the Beds Police Team, as Huw Prole ripped round the lake in 21:11. The final race in the series is on the 20th of March. This race starts at 9:00am not 11:00am like the first 2 races due to cycle racing in the afternoon. We hope to see you there. For more information and full results, visit http://www.personal-group.com/bigcow/
