I couldn't help seeing your item near the end of Indoor Rowing News #86. We at Alcester Grammar School have been indoor rowing for about seven years now. We started with one Indoor Rower before quickly adding another (both of which were rowed on by Redgrave and Pinsent in an exhibition at Evesham RC on a flat bed truck! Funnily enough, the machines have never experienced that sort of power since!)1. We now send about 300 pupils' 2,000m times for inclusion in the British Rankings. All of our 11-14 year olds get a 2,000m time as part of their curriculum work, and these times are reported home at report time.2. We took a party of 23 to the BIRC last November, and plan a full coach this year.3. We have a huge Inter House competition each year when Concept 2 bring 15 rowers down and links them as at the British IRC with our large screen. We had over 300 competitors last year (plus music from Queen!)4. We are presenting our development to other Warwickshire PE Departments in September, prior to Concept 2 presenting E-row etc in December.5. We are planning some more Inter School fixtures for the new School year following our successful fixture with Warwick School (as reported in Indoor Rowing News #83).6. Finally, we know of a number of our pupils who have progressed to University crews. Recently, Andrew Hall rowed at Henley with his crew from (I think!) Leicester University. We know of at least a dozen others, and only recently two of our 15 year olds took themselves off to Stratford RC, who were delighted to pick-up a 7:10 2,000m rower and a 7:30'er.7. All this and we have no Boat Club with the real wet stuff to use.
