New British And World Records

Well, actually old British and World records. The East Midlands IRC, the final event in this year's British Indoor Rowing Grand Prix series, will be run over the old school 2,500m distance rather than the usual 2,000m. To mark this, and to give people something to aim at, we've resurrected the old British and World 2,500m records. 2,500m used to be the old distance for both the World and British Indoor Rowing Championships, until it was changed in 1995 to bring it into line with the Olympic regatta distance of 2,000m. The fastest time ever recorded over the distance was 7:10.7 by Matthias Siejkowski back in 1991, a truly awesome feat when you consider that's an average split of 1:26.1. There are a fair few other famous names floating around in the records as well. The British record is still held by Sir Steve Redgrave with a time of 7:22.7, while Cath Bishop, who won gold in the World Championships last month, jointly holds the Women's Open record with Tish Reid in a time of 8:39.4.Full records can be found at http://www.therowingcompany.com/racing/records.php
