Morag Marshall:Thought I would let you know of our fundraising activities for Comic Relief. Last November the Sixth Form at Sherwood Hall School and Sixth Form College did a 24 hour sponsored row for Children in Need. Over 100 pupils and 20 staff were involved. The sixth form students kept one rower going for the full 24 hours and rowed 313,500 metres – that's the target for next year! The rest of the school got involved by competing in an interform rowing competition on a second rower. A total of 357,014 metres was rowed. It was suggested that we repeated this event for Comic Relief but the head of sixth form and myself (head of PE) decided in our wisdom (after a couple of pints!) that we would do something slightly different. So we came up with the idea of a sponsored triathlon - row, run and cycle. The sixth form organised themselves into teams of six and did one hour stints - 10 minutes activity, 10 minutes rest and rotate around the 3 activities. All was going really well and it seemed like a good idea till the staff had the 1am - 2am slot! The students were great - encouraging each other and helping out when people got tired; and there was a really good atmosphere - even at 9am in the morning after being up all night. We rowed a total of 185,093 metres, ran 157,340 metres and cycled 180,800 metres in 16 hours (5pm - 9am). There's a new target for next year! Last time I go out drinking with the head of sixth form!
