Million Metre Record Attempt
Posted by Concept2 News on the 24th of March 2003
Viewers of ITV's smash hit series 'Reborn In The USA' will know two things, firstly that everything gets a second chance to be fashionable, that what was once popular will be popular again, and secondly that Tony Hadley now looks like Big Tommy from Ground Force. Anyway; we're only concerned with the first of those precepts today. A couple of years ago there was a brief, and unsurprisingly short, burst of interest in million-metre racing, whereby people would try and cover the distance in as short a time as possible. Nigel Gower was one of the former record holders for the distance before losing his crown back to Neil Rhodes. He's now determined to try and beat Neil's record time of six days 17 minutes and 55 seconds and will be having a go at this at the beginning of April. The dates and locations are:-2nd April - Brooklands Shopping Centre, Weybridge3rd April - Bentalls Centre - Kingston (provisional)4th April - London Bridge Railway Station5th April - Friary Centre - Guildford6th April - Weybridge Rowing Club (unless anything else comes along)7th April - Victoria StationNigel will be raising money for Cancer Research UK in the process.
