Simon Delph: I raced on Sunday in an eight over 2,000 metres. The stream was absolutely negligible and our finishing time of 6 minutes 42 seconds was so close to my own personal ergo best over the same distance that I wondered if their is a formula for calculating race times from average crew ergo times. Terry O'Neill: If you think about what you're saying, you'll know the answer is no. There were eight of you in the crew; was 6:42 close to everyone's ergo time? Would you not have thought with seven other people pulling their rocks off you would have gone a bit faster than just you on your own PB? If you had been in a single your time would have been way off of your erg time unless this is the world's slowest 8+.You say there was no stream, what was the water temperature? From winter to summer's water temperature there would be a difference of 10 seconds on a boat's speed over 2,000m. The variables on boat speed are such that it is very difficult to take any data; that's why it is better to train on the machine.
