111,111m on 11/11/11

Posted by Concept2 News on the 22nd of November 2011

On Friday 11th November several ultra-marathon rows were attempted in aid of Combat Stress. Iain Greenwood started his row just after 11am - immediately after the 2 minute silence and 9 hours 26 minutes later completed his 111,111m row.

To support him in his solo row a group of friends rowed 100km in a relay under the name Armistice Amigos (Dani Shrubsole, Ekin Brigden, Adele Wells, David Boyd, Joanna Greenwood, Paul Gould, Elise Freudenberg, Peter West, Claire Clark, and Nick Wells) finishing in 8 hours 30 mins 48 seconds to set a small mixed team record for a 30+ year old team. This only included 3 rowers and several had not rowed a couple of weeks before the event!

In addition, David Plumb and Peter Tullett rowed a tandem 100km to set a 40+ Lightweight British Record of 6 hours 50 mins and 27 Seconds!

So far Iain has raised over £1,200 and is hoping to be able to double this through his employers matched funding programme.
